Getting around in a snowy landscape can pose a problem, particularly if the snow is deeper than 8″ (for an average sized person).

Not only is it more difficult to walk, unless you have some heavy duty snow boots, eventually your feet will grow cold, wet and travel will become more than uncomfortable and depending on the situation, even dangerous.

One way of traveling in snow is to use snowshoes, but purchasing a good pair can cost almost $100 and supplying them for a whole family can be quite costly.

If you live in an area where snow is common, however, part of your survival equipment checklist must include snowshoes.
