The US government, on several web sites recommends a food supply that can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks.
Even without the government chiming in, even if you are not a hardcore survivalist, it still makes sense to have at least a few weeks worth of food stockpiled, just in case of a prolonged weather event that affects power for any length of time.

I’ve always had the idea that these things will last a few years. But what if it’s longer then that? And stocking up on these can make you a target. Government has the right to take all food stock piles and weapon stock piles in times of crisis so hide well. And I recommend a good knowledge of wild edibles plants/mushrooms for when or if things run out.
