Being caught in a survival situation in the middle of winter is never pleasant and can be deadly.

The elements are against you, the temperature is against you, there is not a lot of food to eat, even getting to water can be a struggle. But if you do not defeat each one, taken to an extreme, any single one of those issues could kill you.

One way of combating all three is to build a fire, which wards off the cold, allows you to cook food or melt ice for water and scares off any wildlife that might be hostile to you.

But how does one build a fire in the snow?
