Must-Have Items For Your Mini Fishing Kit

A mini fishing kit is vital if you are in a survival situation or even just on an extended hike in the wilderness.

With a little tinkering, you can adjust your mini fishing kit to fit just about any environment; here are some basic suggestions.

Weight is an essential consideration on any backcountry trip. Serious backcountry hunters obsess over weight to the point of cutting the handle off their toothbrush and trimming the margins away from maps. It goes without saying that a regular fishing setup isn’t going to make the cut.

Finally it dawned on me that all I needed was a few tiny pieces of fishing equipment. I could cut my fishin’ pole from a willow stick. Ten feet of line and a few hooks would complete my tackle.

Here’s what works in my neighborhood. With some small adjustments a persistent a hunter should be able to catch fish in almost any backcountry waters.

1) 35mm film canister to store your tackle
2) Approximately 30 feet of line
3) Half dozen worm hooks, varying sizes
4) Three small treble hooks
5) Dozen split shot
6) Half dozen flies suitable for local fish

If a person is innovative they can usually find something that will induce a fish to strike. I’ve caught fish on worms, grubs, and grasshoppers, Ramen noodles and a little trim of belly meat from the last fish you caught.

This incredible idea for a mini fishing kit is something every survivalist should have at least in their bug-out bag.

It might be a good idea to have more than one and store them in your vehicle, backpack, bug-out bag, camp – anywhere you may suddenly find yourself encountering a survival situation.
