Low Profile Weaponry: Why it’s Important to Consider Adding to an Existing Arsenal of Weapons

man during post apocolypse explosions

You may look at this title and think that this topic is going to be about how to discreetly carry switchblades, a pocket pistol, and brass knuckles.

While these weapons are excellent for defense (though their legality varies in each state), the topic we discuss focuses on a different kind of “low profile” weapon altogether.

In a world of mass hysteria over the potential threats of the “assault rifle,” which the media and people who don't understand firearms have now named public enemy number one, a low profile weapon today is a firearm that isn't noticeable by most people.

So to be underneath the radar and be a “gray man” it's important to have a weapon that won't draw a lot of attention.

To find out what you can do to keep yourself on the down-low and armed simultaneously, check out some relevant information after the break.

Plus LEO/ Mil stockpiles of 5.56 is absolutely insane.

Not to mention parts are going to be a hell of a lot easier to find than more eclectic guns

Another advantage to something like a 30-30 or 45-70 is that you can cast your own bullets and run then with black powder if you need to.

It is cheaper to take the enemies gun than to buy one. If you don’t know how to disarm an adversary, recommend ya learn. Alternative weaponry skills is a bonus can’t always shoot because innocent bystanders

If it all goes sideways to the point of an apocalyptic state. You will have to be mobile. You won’t be able to be idle for long anywhere. It’s not going to be like the walking dead. It will most likely be like the movie “The road”. And in that case I feel like the best option is ammo that you can actually carry. For everyone that says I have 10000 round of 5.56 or 7.62 or whatever the case may be. It’s going to be almost impossible to carry that plus all gear needed to survive. Buy what you can carry of the smallest caliber you are comfortable with. 5000 round of .22 and say about 2000 of 9mm is going to be about all I would want to comfortably carry including all my gear. And that’s still pushing it for me. That’s just my opinion.

I suggest a Glock 17 or 19 which is chambered 9mm that is the most common round across the country because of the police and fed…Glock because its the AK of the pistol world( they will fire any ammo without problems, they function after thousands of rounds without cleaning)…. Revolvers are great as well Like Ruger 101 4in .357..

Chaos is chaos. Being prepared is mental mostly. If catastrophe hits large numbers will die early. After that it won’t matter what gun you carry except can you reload the ammo safely and in quantities useful enough to hunt and protect yourself. Wildlife will take a heavy hit so hunting will be short term.

True. You need a good .22 for hunting (Ruger 10/22 takedown), and good sidearm (Glock 17/19), a backup sidearm (Glock 30), a good shotgun (Remington 870, Mossberg 500/590), and a good assault rifle

If you want to be low profile, just carry a concealable pistol. Im sorry but for a rifle, im choosing semi-autos every time for a SHTF situation.

Uhhh… .223/5.56 is probably the most plentiful round in America. Next to 30-06.

Dalton Mcdermott….wooden stock? An AR has a metal buffer tube attacked the the lower receiver. It will bash your face in as good as a wood stock. Even with a collapsible stock. AD is hands down the best SHTF rifle we could never have. Most plentiful ammo, parts, simplicity. More accurate than an AK or pretty much any other semi auto mag fed rifle. Light weight. Reliable. AR wins the race!!!

The last thing I would be worried about is trying to not attract attention. SHTF means just that. If i want to go incognito I will put on a ghillie suit. Besides that I’m rolling with my AR and my plate carrier full of 30 rd mags.

I was pointing out a good SHTF rifle that’s “low profile” because of the article. I honestly don’t care who remembers me. I’m gonna bring my AR

During the last ammo scare right before Obamas second term, it didn’t matter if it was a common hunting round or bulk handgun/ar15 ammo. It was ALL scarce, and this was a long ways away from being TEOTWAWKI. I had 1 gun in each of the most common calibers. 300wm, 30-06, 308, 30-30, 243, 223, 45acp, 44mag, 357, 40sw, 9mm, 22lr. I justified it to the wife by saying that they’re the most common calibers around here and shouldn’t be hard to find ammo for. Well I was dead wrong, bcuz everybody was buying up the same ammo, the ONLY ammo that could be found was the less popular types like 257, 260, 280, 25-06, 30-40krag, 30-378, 416rigby, etc. and for handgun it was 44-40, 41mag, 10mm, and 25acp. It didn’t get bought up bcuz hardly anyone shoots those.

Got to agree with Chris on this one. The modern conventional military theory of throwing multiple rounds down range at your multiple targets only works with a steady stream of resupply.
In an ammo restrictive environment, every round and every shot must count.
Also, keeping a low profile in a hostile environment it would be helpful to use a suppressor and fewer rounds.

  24. Chuck Weiss said:

I like what your saying but consider this…being mobile is high risk. Thus the military use of fire bases…being on the road can make you a target. In an apocalyptic scenario, food, fuel and water will be scarce and moving would only be something you would do if you have run out of said resources. Even then its high risk as you will not know if those things will be available to you on the road. I do agree with the ability to carry light weight ammo. I have a 10/22 just for that purpose…but consider a upgraded barrel for a fire fight situation. Most of the stock barrels will not hold up to the heat from hundreds of rounds on a hot day!

  25. Jason Bates said:

I don’t know what the best approach would be but I do know you would only have one shot at it lol. I would much rather be stationary and safe. When I say on the move i didn’t mean indefinitely just until your in a safe place. And I 100% agree with you on the Ruger.

Bolt guns are faster than lever guns if properly run, don’t require as much clearance
Below them when chambering, and have far fewer parts to break vs lever guns. Google up “mad minute rifle shooting some time” try that with a lever
    Gun.

  29. Joseph Pecorino said:

A target-rich environment shouldn’t have any effect on trigger discipline, Phil. Sure, you might need an extra shot to spook someone out of cover, but if you’re using a mag for every target taken out you’re going to die pretty quick.

Even the standard loadout for an M4 in a combat environment is only six mags, and that’s anticipatory. If you’re on your own with no tactical knowledge you best stay at home and hope they bottleneck through one door.

  30. Joseph Pecorino said:

You might as well just stop, Phil, you’re getting transparent. You don’t load ‘clips’ into a garand. They strip into the fixed mag.

  31. Joseph Pecorino said:

Alright, that’s about enough. Phil olding doesn’t know$#%&!@*from shiny cheese. Such stupid damn remarks.

  32. Joseph Pecorino said:

With practice and knowing your ranges, you can put 9MM on target consistently at 250 yards, so any garbage about the .270, .308, .30-06, .22-250, .243, .204, 7.632X54R, and higher not being any good for accuracy is just useless regurgitation of some youtuber’s ‘facts’. The Russians zeroed their 91/30s at 300 yards, for$#%&!@*s sake, and that’s just one example. ‘Most hunting rounds’, sure.

I love all this gray man in shtf situations. Like you’re going to suddenly get out of shape, forget how to carry yourself, forget situational awareness, and overall not stick out carrying gear. I hate to break it to the social media world commandos, but if you’re doing what you’re supposed to, just based on your mannerisms you’ll stick out to anyone who knows what to look for. You could be in PT shorts pissing into the wind…..you’ll still stick out.
