Not all snakes are deadly. In fact, most aren't, and even the dangerous ones are very unlikely to bite you unless you actively try to make contact with them.

That said, there certainly are some dangerous ones out there and knowing how to tell them apart from the average non-lethal snake can definitely be useful information if you are ever bitten by a snake.

Before we get into this list, a small disclaimer. Not all venomous snakes fall within the parameters of the list, and the same goes for non-venomous snakes. This was mainly developed for the United States, although not all of the dangerous species are listed.

If in doubt, just avoid all snakes you come across. However, if you happen to be bitten by one of these reptiles, a quick glance at the perpetrator will often tell you whether or not you should be rushing to the hospital.
