When facing a survival situation, fire is one of your major priorities, especially if you are in a cold weather scenario.

Use fire to warm you, cook and purify water, as a signal, as a comfort and in a pinch, as a weapon. It is almost as important as shelter, depending on the environment you are facing.

You can survive in all but the most extreme elements if you have a fire to keep warm; there is no guarantee that merely building a shelter if it is cold enough, will help you survive until help can arrive.

That is why it is critical that you not only have several different methods of creating fire in your survival kit, but you also know how to use them to their optimum effectiveness.
