Bear attacks might seem like rare occurrences in the wild. For the last fifteen years, there have been 27 fatalities caused by bear attacks in North America.

More than half of the attacks were caused by black bears, and the rest were caused by grizzly bears. When it gets down to it, it averages out to about three deaths per year.

When they do happen, they can be devastating. We've heard the horror stories. We've seen The Revenant. So even though they might be unlikely, they are still completely terrifying for the average of three unfortunate individuals that do not live to tell the tale each year.
