Preparedness comes in all shapes and sizes. You can buy really expensive items, store them away in case an emergency rears its ugly head, and that would be good. But then again, you can also hide away some low-cost articles, throw away items, suitable for every-day use and that can give you an edge too.

In California we always have a fear in the back of our minds about “the big one”, an earthquake so large and chaotic that we just night find ourselves without emergency services for weeks on end. We need to get clever and inventive before such a thing happens. Keep long lasting food items in you party, have an emergency kit with blankets, batteries and equipment you think you will need, and make sure there is water handily available. Dehydration is no one’s friend!
