For the vast majority of us, ending up stranded on a desert island is not a very likely scenario.

The essence of survival, however, is understanding how to make it through virtually any situation, which can only be achieved by understanding how one set of survival skills can transfer into another environment.

For example, learning how to use medium sized branches to fashion a rough shelter in the jungle also applies to a colder weather environment. Knowing how to forage for marine life means you can eat or set traps to catch fish and game, which applies to virtually every environment.

So while you may not find much on the video on the next page absolutely applicable, there is enough in it that is “cross-applicable” to make it worth watching, even if you never come within 100 miles of a tropical desert island.
