Recently, we had a tornado come into our area and while we were not so disastrously damaged, where the roof came off of the house, we and our neighbors did have to go without electricity for a few days. We were fortunate that a friend had a gas stove and we could at least cook some things. Also, we had a pantry full of canned meats like tuna, chicken, hash and shredded beef.
In other words, it could have been much worse. Still, that got us to thinking about a more dangerous situation where we might eventually have to do without electricity and a cooling system (RE: refrigeration) for our meats for a long period of time. Yes, we are thinking of the grid going down but also a natural disaster that could have us without power for a week or more!
How do we salvage the meat we have stored?
Over on the next page, we will give you a few ideas on this very subject!
We do not want to do without protein/meat but with recent reports about Yellow Stone earthquakes, hurricanes where there never was one before, and the unknown, it does not hurt to know how to prolong fresh and frozen meats!
