How to Survive an Aircraft Accident

passenger plane with fire

It's important to remember not to panic if you end up in a plane accident. As with any potentially life-threatening scenario, it's important to keep calm and take action. The following tips will help you create an emergency action plan.

Wear sturdy and comfortable clothing

Wear sensible shoes like lace-up shoes so it will be easy for you to exit the aircraft and prevent cuts and flammable liquids on your feet

Sit at the tail end of the aisle nearest the exit which has a 40% higher chance of survival

Always read the safety card and pay close attention to the pre-flight safety instructions

Make a mental note on how many seats are there between your seat and the exit

Always wear your seatbelt
Consider placing a jacket on your lap which can be used as a heat shield in case of a fire or protect you from the cold if ever you do get out alive

There are two standard brace positions you can take before impact. Mythbusters made a test and suggests the crash force from your body is channeled to the chair in front of you if you’re sitting in the brace position through a series of tests. Crash test dummies were also used in some studies on the brace position and prove that it will save your life. Keep your feet well behind your knees to protect your legs. You will need them to bring you to the nearest exit. Keep this position until the plane has come to a standstill.

Forget your luggage and exit the plane as fast as you can. Studies show the actual impact is not what kills most of the passengers but what happens afterward like being burned to death or drowning. Research also shows you have about 90 seconds to exit the plane.

Plane accidents are rare, but they can happen. You should do what you can now before it's too late. It never hurts to be prepared and you should also prepare your loved ones because you never know if or when they may be in this situation. The more you can prepare the better chance you'll have at staying alive or at least helping people through the disaster.

Those seat belts are designed to withstand a lot of force.
    You can trust them.
    Things that help.
    Are staying fit.
Young slim men and women have the best odds.
Old and out of shape have the worst odds of surviving.
First 3 minutes after takeoff and last 8 minutes of your flight duration is the time frame most crashes occur.
That being said though, make sure your prepared at all times.
Where clothing you can move around in and bring something flame retardant that will protect you.
Deer hide Leather jacket for instance but don’t forget gloves.
    Remember to carry gloves.
Deer hide welding gloves are something to consider, but leather workmate forestry gloves are a good option as well.
Don’t sleep and where shoes or boots that are easy to move in, and have the durability to withstand heat, the kicking smashing thrashing objects that lye between you and the exit.
My wife always teases me about wearing leather jackets and gloves on adventures in
    both cars and planes.
Still haven’t told her the real reason.
Saved her from getting really wet on a Whale watching adventure one time though at Sea World though.
