As we humans have expanded our footprint, we have encroached significantly the habitat of many wild animals; couple that with less people hunting and wild animals losing some of their fear of humans and the mix is almost perfect for encounters between man and beast.

One beast that used to be a rare sighting but are growing in number are bears.

Do a Google Search on bear encounters and you will actually find more news stories about encounters in suburbia than in the country or the wilderness.

That being a reality, there are a number of things you can do to avoid an encounter – or at least reduce the likelihood of one – without harming the animal or putting yourself in danger.
