Realistically, it should be a last resort – dying in a trap is a gruesome process that leaves the animal terrified, confused and frantic up until its last breath.

That is just the reality of trapping.

In a survival situation, however, it might be your only recourse to getting your hands on calorie and protein rich meat.

Getting meat, even if you do not usually eat it is critical in a survival situation, particularly if you are removed from  your survival supplies.

You simply cannot collect enough edible plants, nuts and berries to replace the calories you use collecting them; your life becomes a vicious cycle of burning calories to collect food to restore the calories you just lost.
