How to Construct an Appalachian Berry Bucket Using Tree Bark

Long before the use of tin, aluminum, and plastic for buckets, people typically made their own buckets from whatever materials they had available to them.

Often times, this came in the form of wood with metal rings, much like casks and barrels, so that they could hold water. However, there are many tasks which don't call for the use of such heavy materials.

That's not the only reason you wouldn't want one of the heavy wooden buckets, though: they were also quite expensive and time-consuming to make.

So what you want is a bucket for everyday gathering, which can be done quickly, easily, and cheaply.

Luckily, the material used to make such a bucket comes in the form of tree bark, which can be harvested for all sorts of crafts.
