How to Charge a Cell Phone Using a Candle!

charge a phone with candle

This idea is a simple method for constructing a phone charger that ultimately utilizes a candle to create the energy needed to generate power.

It is one of those “prep” steps you can take before you run into a survival crisis in order to ensure when you need power for your phone, you have it.

To make this, here's what you will need:

• 2 empty cat food cans( these can be the bottoms of any can)
• Heat resistant epoxy or glue:
• Solder
• USB 2.0 plug (scavenged from old charger)
• 12v Peltier thermoelectric cooler
• A strip board
• A small tea candle (can buy almost anywhere)

-Components

• 5v regulator
• 2x 10 nanofarad ceramic disk capacitor
• 100 ultrafarad electrolytic capacitor
• A diode

-tools

• Multimeter
• Soldering iron
• Pliers

To start take the cans and cut the lips off the top, so they can fit on top of each other. Cut three slits equally spaced apart. Poke some holes in the sides to allow air flow.

In this step we will build the circuit. Just follow the schematic.
next I took my heat resistant epoxy and glued the cooler to the top can.

Trim down the circuit board.

To finish is simple, light the candle.

As with any DIY project, this likely would take some trial and error and you want to have it tested and ready before you are in a situation where you need it.

In a pinch, however, this type of charger can keep your phone going, even if other power sources are not available.
