There are several reasons why a person may be contemplating a life living off the grid. Many people long for simpler times when everyone took care of themselves and relied on their own skills to get them through, but after SHTF that's now how it's going to be.

I’ll guarantee I can live well on a houseboat on next to nothing cost. What is the object of going off of the grid? I can also live quite well on the grid but I watch what I spend my money on. I do not need every doo dad that comes along. I pattern myself after Lindberg. If Lindberg did not have it, the plane is up, know what I mean Vern?

Here in Texas their has been a liberal movement to put meters on private water wells.
It’s just a money grab by the government. We are the only animals on this planet that have to pay to live here.
Get land? They still tax you on land you “own” apparently some of you dumb asses don’t get it. No matter where you live they got their hands in your pocket.
Fully functional society is way better, as long as it’s functional.
What’s it’s saying is it will cost me around $20000- $50000. Why would I pay that. All I habe to do is move to Alaska in the middle of nowhere and start my own off the grid living, without the government ever knowing I’m there.
It’s simple you don’t needs a lot of money, as long as you know what you are doing.
This is kinda not totally true with some research and acquired knowledge take the professional out of it. Besides then all you really done is prove that you’re not being totally self reliant
Just food for thought.
These numbers are just a little off if you DIY…
I can detail all of the pieces and components necessary…if anyone is interested.
1…solar… $1500 will buy a system that meets all your needs…if used conservatively.
2…water… $1200 puts together a rain catchment system with all the components necessary to collect and distribute to your home, 700 gallons in a single good rainstorm.
3…heat… $1000 purchases a perfectly good reburning, wood burning stove and the double wall flu that you will need… As for the wood itself, you should have a chainsaw and axe anyway.
