For those of you that do not know, an EMP is an electromagnetic pulse, caused by a sudden burst of electromagnetic energy. An EMP can damage electronics that you have in your home, or in more serious circumstances, cause damage to buildings, vehicles, and even the landscape itself.
Lightning can cause an EMP, as can nuclear weapons. We've all seen evidence of the power of an EMP – think of a power outage by lightning or the ruin of a city struck by a nuclear explosion.
In the event of an EMP, it can be difficult to identify which means of transportation will still be reliable. Will cars still work? Airplanes? Or will you have to walk everywhere? Depending on the strength of an EMP, you might be extremely limited in your options.

In all Honesty it depends on where you live and what you have to worry about in your area. the difference than living in a city or town or boondocks what the people around you are like are they oblivious or prepared. is the community you live in self sufficient or dependent. and how far is the nearest big city that isn’t self sufficient. and how easy or hard is it to get to your area. there is some many variables that one set of rules does not apply to all places. the best thing to do is figure a few evacuation routes depending on what you have access to. and some caches at the end of those routes. it actually takes effort to design what is best for your area. and what is available to you. so take time to figure it out.

Even if you had a vehicle with old style mechanical ignition and fuel pump that would run after an EMP attack. You probably wouldn’t get two miles before you would be killed by mobs taking your vehicle.
