Over the last couple of decades, survival strategies and tactics have become very popular topics, moving from doomsday fringes to prime time television.

There are a lot of reasons for this – lack of faith in our government's ability to respond to disasters, the scary state of the world, political upheaval – to name just a few.

Of course, as survival has moved from the fringe, Hollywood has gotten in on the act and the results, typically of Hollywood, have been decidedly mixed.

There are many different types of survival shows and the one commonality they all seem to possess is the need to sensationalize, which has led to some bad decisions and awful advice.
