Some have homesteading foisted upon them because of where they live while others simply prefer an existence where they are their own boss and can “live off the land”.

Homesteading skills are less about wilderness survival and prepping for a disaster, although both are important and – to a smaller degree –  involved with homesteading, than merely being self-reliant. You want to do it all on your own, live a good, clean life without having to depend on the outside world and technology for your subsistence.

This is the way some of our grandparents or great-grandparents lived and stories are often told about how rewarding it was and is. However, it is a hard life and beginners in this day and age may not really understand what they are getting themselves into.
