For most of us, the shooting of police in Dallas and the Orlando nightclub massacre were shocking and upsetting – and not just because of the loss of innocent life.
These violent crimes impacted virtually all of us for two main reasons.
In regards to the former, they attacked symbols of safety and security.
in the latter case, the target was an everyday venue – not an iconoclastic building, military or government facility.
It is also unsettling because in each instance, the murderer was home-grown and the mayhem was very detailed and planned.
It also impressed a grim reality – this is the new reality.
Whether the perpetrator is a terrorist, criminal or someone with mental illness matters not.
The new reality is public places and even private venues are fair game and that means you must be prepared.
