In the majority, snakes are not poisonous and if you are bitten by one, the largest threat to you is actually infection of the wound and exposure to bacteria that that is prominent in just about every snake's mouth.

If you are bitten by a non poisonous snake, even if the bite seems small, if blood is drawn, treat it as a serious wound because it can develop into something very serious without even having venom be present.

Although this article covers poisonous snakes in Kansas but the description of the various, major venomous snakes is a reliable guide for most of the south and Midwest.

They’ve been called poisonous my entire life. They call snakes like Green Mambas and sea serpents venomous becuz their venom is so much more toxic than a pit viper

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the general rule of thumb “pointy tail not poisonous, blunt tail poisonous”?

Walmart in Easley S.C. has a timber rattlesnake in their stick room several summers back. So just keep eyes, opened just in case, especially during dry hot summers when they’re looking for food and water. .

My mother had a almost biblical fear of snakes. I have never understood that. I see them as just another part of nature. Skunks, Racoons, Feral Cats and Dogs are way more dangerous.
