This awesome auto-setting fish setting mechanism, once calibrated properly is a reliable way to set up a fishing rig and then go do other survival tasks.

In a survival situation, it lets you potentially catch food, while not expending much energy, once you have a place where fish are located and feeding.

We use this auto-setting trigger system to fish for catfish while night fishing in the Summer, but you could use it for any type of fishing with any type of rigid fishing pole.

One addition we include is to attach a small bell (usually from a cat's collar) to the fishing pole to signal us when the trip mechanism is set off; this mechanism also works for ice fishing as well.
