Check Out How to Make This Epic Japanese Handsaw Handle

Japanese handsaw handle

If you have a great tool that you use all the time and want to keep using it all the time well into the future, chances are that tool is going to need some TLC at some point. One such instance would be a broken handle on a saw.

To learn how to craft your own Japanese handsaw handle, take a look at the instructions below.

Material
The handle is made from some scrap pine or fir from a pallet.
The wrapping material is binding cane normally used in caning chairs.
Making the Wood Handle
When you mill the wood cut it a little larger than you need. That way you can shape the material down until it fits your hand just right.
The handle should be an oval shape with flat sides.
Putting the Saw Blade Into the Handle
To glue the two sides together wood glue would do just fine.
Wrapping the Handle
Prep your cane by soaking it in water.
I used a 1/8 inch drill bit for the holes you'll put the cane in. You want to be able to put the cane in the hole and bend it to start wrapping.
To hold the cane in place, any glue will do. Apply glue and clamp it in place until it sets.

There's no reason a good tool should go to waste. If you have a tool in need of some repair, such as a handle replacement like the one above, see to it that your tool gets the care it deserves. After all, without your tools, there wouldn't be much you could do in the way of maintaining your property.

Learning how to make fixes like this is also a great skill to learn when SHTF, because chances are you won't be able to simply head down to the hardware store for a new saw.
