Can’t Get Into Your Bug Out Cabin? This FAST Way to Pick a Lock Can Save You From Breaking Down Your Door!

Bump key

While you may have a spare key stored somewhere in your gear, having a bump key on hand could come in handy to open most locks on your property. It may save you some money in the future (I once paid $60 for a locksmith to let me in my car; it took him less than ten seconds). Plus, it's a seriously cool skill to have. Watch the video below to learn some tricks of the locksmith trade.

Learning how to get into nearly any lock is a valuable skill to have. Of course, some common sense is necessary. Great power and responsibility and all that. Using these lessons on locks that don't belong to you is, needless to say, a huge crime. If you ever need to use this lesson, use it responsibly.

A huge thank you to Scam School for this highly informative and fun video.

If you can break down the door of your oh my God the world is ending cabin, you need a better door.

I’m sorry but this is kind of a stupid “scenario” to use for an attention grabber for the article. I’ll go ahead and say, yes a bump key is a good idea in general and learning how to use it for a SHTF situation is good. That being said if I have a mind about me to have a bump key on hand, I’ll probably have my cabin key too.

I didn’t read it, but Bump Keys and 999 keys can legally be purchased and made.

Purchase a 1/8 inch rubber ring to put over the key. Allows you to tap repeatedly and have the key return to the start point. Helps save time.

It’s not so much about the lock quality as the pins inside. Mushroom pins can’t be bumped. Plus you need the proper blank to match the cylinder. Best off learning to pick. It’s far more universal.
