Every survival situation – it does not matter if it is the aftermath of a hurricane, laying low during civil unrest, getting lost in the wilderness – has four commonalities: You have to find shelter, food, water and create fire.

Of those four, in the immediate, a safe haven is of paramount importance, but after that, water becomes your most immediate and critical need.

You can last three to four days without water, but each hour without it, brings about degradation of your survival skills and thus, reduces the chances of you making it out alive.

Ideally, you can find water and purify it, but if that is not an option, you can set up a solar still that within a fairly short period of time, it will immediately give you drinkable water.
