It can be overwhelming for a survivalist to choose a rifle when there are so many nice ones to choose from. Ideally, you will find a model that meets all your needs, something that helps you hunt for food, and strong enough to withstands less than ideal situations.
If you're on a tight budget, it may be difficult to find a rifle that meets all your needs. There is one particular rifle that just may surpass your expectations.
You're about to learn more about the Russian Mosin Nagant, a battle rifle that's been around for a long time and it still proves comparable to newer or more expensive models.

Can’t get them for cheap anymore till the gun sanctions are lifted on Russia.
Nagants average around 250 now due to relations with Russia not being so great. Good luck finding one of these for less
Some of the walmarts out in the Inland Empire have it

The sks is a good weapon as well.
My first rifle was a nagant. Loved it. Never a problem.
I have two of them a hex receiver and a round receiver
When hand picked and modified with a difficult to mount scope, turned down bolt etc they made fair to middlin’ sniper rifles 75 years ago. Now you can buy far better American made off the shelf rifles with more accurate effective and non corrosive ammo for similar money. If you want a cool old nostalgic rifle, I’m not mad, but let’s not pretend the average iron sighted cosmoline coated mid war mosin is a sniper rifle. They were mass produced battle rifles, and not even the best of the breed.
Ammoseek, for all your 762×54 needs.

I’ll stick my 8mm Mauser and my handloads, hehe

Russ proof, what else can You say get Apurture sights From Vodoo Sites .com and Your good for the next 100yrs.
Thanks. Good to know.
This gun is also known as the Garbage Rod, spend the extra few bucks and get a Mauser.
That or a SKS
I’ve owned one of these for 14 years and have never had any issues with it! I would recommend this rifle to anyone
Try 450 last time I was at the gun Store. When I bought mine 9 years ago it was in every big 5 paper for 99.99
I’ve had mine for a while. It costed $80 bare bones but that was 10+ years ago when my dad bought it at big 5
Prices are way high than that now !!!!!
Mosin is love, Mosin is life
Or you could buy a bolt action rifle that shoots better than 5 inch groups at 100 yds
Who is still selling yhem that cheap? I paid $35.00 for my first one from a store called Rose’s several years ago in Kentucky and the last one I bought in March 2012 in Georgia was $112.00 (included tax) with bayonet, sling, 4 ammo pouches, 40 rounds of ammo and a oil/solvent can with cleaning kit when I went to buy another one about 4 or 5 months later and the price had gone up to $160.00 just for the rifle the accessories were another $40.00 so I passed on buying another I didn’t want another one that bad.

Sorry but I have not seen any under 400 dollars.
Nope. One at 395.
They were $99 everywhere but now over $200 still a favorite of mine
Al Sorensen and Bill Scheeneman That was when the price went up on them down here along wjth the price and avaliability of all ammo, for awhile you couldn’t even find 22 LR so went back to plinking with black powder which I like to shoot but cleaning on the range can be a pain. I heard through the grape vine that there are some containers of lend lease rifles and 1911 sitting packed waiting for President Trump to give the OK for them to ship.
WHERE CAN I GET MINE???
Haven’t seen them at that price in years. I personally don’t like them(I’m a lefty and the bolt is to intrusive and the safety isn’t safe) that being said I would recommend say the savage axis or ruger all American. You can get then for 300 to 400 depending on the package. And you can choose the caliber best suited to you.
I’ve got mine!
I haven’t found one less than $275
Lol. Where ?
Damn good gun!

1948 is pressed into the barrel of my carbine version. It was $149 with a foldable bayonet 8 years ago. I don’t know prices today. However hunting rounds in my area are difficult to come by ranging $30 for a box of 20, but $15 for a pack of fmj. It’s been a while since I bought that ammo so it may be more now. Also I don’t know if the older models were like this, but mine has a second safety. There’s the first safety like described in the article, then there’s a second where the bolt has a click halfway when locking it in place. When the bolt is in this half locked position, I can squeeze the trigger and the action falls in without striking the pin. Then the bolt has to be pushed back up and re-locked to be able to fire.
My Nagant, use mine for deer hunting.
Modified my Nagant, absolutely love this rifle. But this article is hella out of date. Less than a hundred bucks ain’t happening these days .
That’s a good looking rifle!
Exactly! Savage Axis, Ruger American, Howa M1500 and several others all known to be accurate and reliable for similar prices. You can even find most of em pre-packaged with a scope already mounted. Depending on what you want to do with it get it in 223, 308 or even 30-06 and out of the box, you’ve got a better deal. I’m not knocking the mosin, it’s just not the super deal it used to be
And if you want an accurate war relic Springfield 1903 is accurate now I’m not sure on price of those things but I’m sure they are like the M1 Gerand rare and expensive.
I bought my 4 pre-ban for $109 Cabela’s, with bayonets, one I bought aftermarket syn stock, others cleaned and did bolt modifications on two, All have taken down several deer, and a number of feral hogs. They kick hard but never failed. Not the long range gun that my .308 is but not bad. Hopefully Trump will end embargo, would love to pick up a few more.
Michael Gillam russian death machine

Key word for under $100, if you take that factor out it the “garbage rod” is one of the WORST surplus rifles out there. Take a Yugo Mauser any day.
Those days are gone
Brian Kosich where are you getting it for that? I’d like a few tins
Big 5 does not sell them anymore
If u buy the bulk cheap ammo make sure to use bore shine after shooting, those rounds are corrosive and if u don’t clean your barrel well l then you get rust
