It can be overwhelming for a survivalist to choose a rifle when there are so many nice ones to choose from. Ideally, you will find a model that meets all your needs, something that helps you hunt for food, and strong enough to withstands less than ideal situations.
If you're on a tight budget, it may be difficult to find a rifle that meets all your needs. There is one particular rifle that just may surpass your expectations.
You're about to learn more about the Russian Mosin Nagant, a battle rifle that's been around for a long time and it still proves comparable to newer or more expensive models.

I had 3 over the years, they are a cheap shooter if that is what you want, none of the 3 was very accurate, I sold 2 and gave away 1.
I’m not a Mosin collector, so once the price went up it was worth it to sell off all my rifles and ammo at collector prices and put the money towards something else.
It’s like legos for big kids! Haha
I paid around 60 or so for mine years ago too.
Milsurp mausers are the best bet.
I love mine. Got it 8 yrs ago for 75 bucks. Came with bayonet, and ammo pouches and cleaning kit. Picked it out of a crate.
I have one and it’s ammo is hard to find here in California. Used to find cases of a thousand for $300 but now 20 for $20 is all I’m finding locally. But still a fun weapon to own. Came with the original ammo belt and bayonet.
What’s wrong with a Lee Enfield 303? Versatile and ammo is realitively cheap and plentiful
I shoot in a 200 yard iron sight league right in Tusco all summer! You’re always welcome brother
If you find that time warp grab me one and some 10 dollar bricks of .22LR ammo. I think the 100 dollar Mosin days are gone like the 10 dollar bricks of 22. Just my thoughts, your mileage may vary.

Kicks like a freaking mule
Yeah, 10 years ago.
350.00 a case here in Alaska
There are tons of Mosin at cabelas. They just aren’t listing them on their site because they are moving through all the time.
Frank, dicks by me had two Yugo SKS with fixed mags for 600$ a piece. I was like WTF are they smoking lol
U cant buy a mosin for $100 anymore
Yeh, they haven’t been $100 for at least 5 years now.

My dad was killing time before his doctor appointment one day. So for fun, he headed to the local gun store to browse. The store had a crate of Mosin-Nagants on display. Once he saw the price, and the cheap ammo, he grabbed two and gave me one. For the price and it being surplus, I didn’t know what to expect. 50 yards, 20 shots hit in a neat 2 inch group. Went on out for 90 yards and kept a 3 inch grouping. And this was surplus ammo, $6 for a bundle of 20 wrapped in a brown paper packet.
Sorry to burst your bubble but hunting ammo and fmj ammunition are a far cry from similarities…so if you wanna drop animals especially large ones don’t shoot fmj ammunition
Eric Derheimer that sounds great! Any weapon permissible? My .308 is scoped, but my AR has iron sights.
Have one 129.00 ammo cheap as l reload .Some work with loads there pretty accurate.
I bought mine for $200 with ammo. Matching numbers
For 450 you can get the new savage axis 30-06 with a weaver scope. Now the ammo isn’t cheap anywhere from 20-45 dollars a box but it’s a good gun to learn on and it’ll knock just about anything down.
And iron site rifles are not for the inexperienced hunter…don’t see hunting ammunition in 7.62…an over the counter savage rifle optic combo in .243 .270 .308 is a way better option than a 7.62 ammunition and shot placement drop animals not the caliber of the projectile or rifles being used…I’m glad your info is pro gun but get your info correct before leading someone down a dead end
I can remember $49.00 for one
Doubt it
I think you can shoot anything for fun
I live in MS and bought mine “new” with bayonet for $300. matching serial numbers for all parts included. Used and mix matched parts you can find for $100.
I’ll take a K98 Mauser over that$#%&!@*stick anyday.
My Mosin build (m38). Under $450.
They were good buys, ten-fifteen years ago. Just like the Enfields were 25-30 years ago. I had an 1915 Tula rifle for $50. Wish I kept it. Same with a lot of the old gun buys I saw. SKSs for $75, Tokarevs and Makarovs, with holsters, mags, accessories, some as low as $100 or less. The libs under Obama destroyed a viable trade. There’s stuff out there and hopefully under Trump and a Republican congress we might see something, but I doubt it.

I got mine with the bayonet, original cleaning kit and a box of bullets for $240
What is that
I bought mine back in 07 for $200.$#%&!@*has gotten out of hand.
Bought mine for 120 with the folding stock
Go to gunbroker.com. Mosins are starting at about $250. There is a dealer, BlackMarketArms, who appears to have come across a pile of Mosin Nagants. It seems that he flooded gunbroker and is driving up to price of these rifles. Their rifles start at $399. Interesting.
The best price I could find on a Mosin was $200
The prices have skyrocketed. Can’t find one, even the no.4 s for less than $500
I’m gonna stick with Ruger..
Mike Gillenwater
I have mine. Fun rifle to shoot.
Most i just found on gunbroker.com were $295-395
I mean, if the import ban is lifted and Russia wants some quick cash for a million 91/30’s prices could come back down… but I doupt it, they will still be sold for $250…
Worth every penny
Hey Gino, I got an archangel stock on mine.
David Easley
Josh I just looked it up. I’m buying as we speak!
