Good luck finding one for under a $100 or even under $200 only. Place I’ve seen them decently priced is my local gun shop at $250 and you can get them to work with you on it

I bought a pair for 99 a piece about 2 years ago. But I have an awesome dealer. And they had case upon case.

My local gun store has about 30 in mint condition that are still covered in the dip they put them in back in the day. They will sell them for $250 and they come with the original leather ammo pouch and bayonet that is in mint also

Where can you buy a Mosin for under (or even a little over) $100 anymore? If anyone knows please fill me in….!

Perhaps the SKS is O.K…. but with all the inexpensive ARs you’d be just as far ahead getting a Bushmaster. I own several “garbage rods”. If I could get a match grade barrel (not possible) they would be O.K.

Also seen a lot of people talk about (don’t know if it works or not) but if it has a problem with accuracy throw the bayonet on it and it’ll help. Got mine shooting 3 inch groups at 200 yards so I’m happy with that haha

I have 4 of them, got them when they were cheaper around $70. I love them and shoot very well but a pain in the shoulders. Ammo is still cheap.

Agreed. The first centerfire I owned was an M44. It was fun. It was ridiculously cheap, and the ammo was too back then. They just aren’t the bargain they used to be, and it would no longer be my recommendation for a first firearm to anyone interested in survival topics.

Ammo is getting harder to find also. Very accurate and lots of accessories.

I have several of these purchased many years ago when they firs started importing them. Got 3 for $100.00 then.

I’ve heard the Finnish rifles are all pretty good, and so were the pre-war and inter war rifles, but to me, that’s part of the problem. They make for fun inexpensive collectibles, there is a large and growing aftermarket for stocks, turned bolts, scopes, etc, but to just grab a rifle from a gun show table or from your local gun shop, the average person wouldn’t know what they were getting without some research, and then the gun might be a shooter, or it might not be. Either way, pretty impressed that yours is shooting so well at 200 yards!

Easy to find the ammo, and cheap for the caliber. Love my 54r’s.

Idk what your talking about. Sometimes Walmart carries 54r, every cabelas, bass pro and gun shop carries 54r, you can buy spam cans of 450 round for under 200 a can… is the ammo as accessible as 223…. no…. but the rifle is more accessible to people strictly due to the fact the cheapest ar (or 308 for that matter ) is gonna set you back at least 500-700 dollars with no ammo. For under 400 bucks some one could set them selves up with a rifle and 400 rounds. I’d say it more common than 8mm but maybe not as common as 22.

These are great guns- I own three. Two as original collectibles- and the third I modified with a new stock, turned bolt and scope. It is an outstanding deer rifle. I would compare the 7.62×54 as good as the 30-06. Not asking to see ballistics charts- just my experience. Best part is that ammo is very reasonable. Mil grade is dirt cheap and soft nose hunting rounds are pretty cheap as well.

Yeah the prices have gone up quite a bit. I have a type 53 (with archangel stock) and love it. But with inherent rimlock issues, for the price and effort just get a box mag fed 308 bolt gun over the counter

  16. Charles Mooneyham said:

s**t finding a shooter with nice furniture cost damn near 300… I think it’s more so the fact all the nice ones been bought up. Now if someone took a Mosin, dropped in in an arch angel, added an extended mag, put a 300 scope on the gun, re blued the barrel…. yeah they have a pretty damn nice sniper rifle… now on the other hand I cringe when I see one of thes beauties spray painted camo with a shoddy scop drilled and mounted to the furniture… me personally I appreciate the gun for what it is…. a bad$#%&!@*cannon that will probably still 80 years old out live me….

  17. Charles Mooneyham said:

It’s one of my favorites hands down… lol granted I only like to shoot it about 5 times, then I’m good lol

  18. Frank Balcer said:

SKS prices are outrageous now, seen them for over $400. sometimes $500.

  19. Joshua Quick said:

Frank Balcer went to my local store and the guy has one for $600 granted it’s in great condition but it’s still insane

  20. Bill Scheeneman said:

I have a m44 barrel is all pitted and I can hit life size steel turkeys at 500 meters all day long. Iron sights that is!

  21. Steven C F said:

Makes me wish I bought a case of them when they actually were $100.

  22. Benny Finch said:

Most of the ones I’m seeing are in the 300-400 range or more

  23. Ron Hosea said:

Charles Mooneyham What I’m talking about is, every mom and pop corner store that has three boxes of shells has a box of .22’s, a box of 12 gauge, and a box of 30/30. So unless you’re planning on stockpiling enough ammo to do you forever before SHTF, after it hits, you’re going to be out of luck. Am I saying that a 30/30 is as good. Certainly not, but I’ll take a 22 with plenty of ammo over ANYTHING without ammo.

Prices have gone up. These were great rifles for the price, just like the SKS was. A quick search on Gunbroker and I can get a new Ruger American rifle in 308, for under $360. Instead of buying two Mosins, you could get one of these in a common caliber and it’s much easier to add optics and has a better trigger. I’m sure if money is a factor, you could find a cheaper one used. It all depends if you want one as a collector, shooter, etc.

  25. Joshua Quick said:

Laird Lotko what condition was it in? That’s the first in years I’ve heard of a $99 mosin
