A Fail-Proof Method To Create Fire From Char

Char is an excellent resource for starting fires and today, we're going to show you exactly how it's done. Remember – there are many ways to start a fire. But it's important that you don't limit yourself to learning only a few methods. Survival is about being resourceful, so soak up as much information as possible and learn how to work with what you have.

Apart from treating medical issues, there are four basics to being able to survive just about any situation: Shelter, Food, Water and Fire. Address those four and your chances of surviving are improved immensely.

Of the four, starting a fire can be the most challenging. The conditions have to be right, materials have to be combustible and dry and then the igniting source has to be reliable.

One way of ensuring ignition is to use “Char cloth.” Char cloth is basically organic material that is heated to the point of becoming charred, but not so much that it burns.

When a fire is needed, the cloth is then ignited and because it burns slowly, it can be placed amongst kindling to slowly but reliable ignite the kindling.
