It's best to avoid having an encounter with a bear. Sure, most will likely be afraid of you unless you are interrupting their meal or are near one of their cubs, but there is the rare occurrence when a bear may act differently.
So how are you supposed to act when you get surprised by a bear? Give the bear as much space as possible… Black bears are less likely to harm you but if you were to come across a grizzly bear? You better get far, far away but don't run! You want to make yourself appear large and slowly but surely move yourself out of the area.
If a bear does show up unexpectedly, it's best to back away slowly and give the bear a lot of space. Also, try speaking in a calm voice; it's best to let the bear know you're not a threat. And if he does attack — fight back like your life depends on it, because it does!

Ummmm this is not really a “wild” bear. It was raised in a bear sanctuary and this photographer has known and played with this bear since it was a cub. It’s name is brutus. They were featured on the go pro youtube channel.

Wow!….what an amazing yet asspuckering experience. Kuddos to the camera man for remaining calm and not blowing that thing to pieces. I don’t know if I would have been able to remain as calm and collected as him/her. I might have had to kill a beautiful creature that was only doing what he knows. Great job sir.
