After a natural disaster, one reality is that there will likely be damaged and abandoned vehicles due to the severity of the catastrophe.

However, even if a car gets abandoned, a car can provide a lot of survival materials and supplies that a person can use during the aftermath.

It's first vital to make sure the vehicle is indeed abandoned — never start re-purposing the car only to find out that the owner was just around the corner.

After you have confirmed the car is left there is a ton of supplies to utilize for survival.

Some of these items are hoses, mirrors, and the list goes on and on. The owners leave their car because they're in a hurry, but now you can use these items to your advantage and add them to your stash.

To see a fantastic list of SHTF supplies and parts a person can salvage from an abandoned vehicle, check out the slides after the break.

But if you were going to scrap off a Saturn just kick it and it’ll fall off

My personal list in no order would be: wiring, seat belts, seat cloth fabric, mirrors, radio antenna, any useful contents from trunk/glove box

Possibly the trunk carpeting and floor mats.

I’d consider the gas/windshield fluid if I had a way to easily transport it.

And *if* I had a hack saw and several blades and a *lot of time I’d cut the tires up into knee, shoulder and elbow pads.

Good article if the vehicle is close to your bug out spot. Also, broken glass could serve a lot of purposes too.
