Martial law. It’s one phrase that terrifies citizens, regardless of their political beliefs. Martial law means there will be complete restrictions of rights and privileges, a weak economy and lessened individual power to enact change via voting and protesting.
Of course, many of us could argue that we are under martial law right now, but compared to what things could be, any form of martial law today is child's play.
For martial law to actually happen one of all of 5 things must occur, otherwise, people will see the enacting of martial law as an arbitrary crackdown and will inevitably fight back. For the martial law to work, citizens much think that the government is acting in the best interest of the people.
If you take a look at history, you will know this is far from true. Martial law exists only for the benefit of those who are in power, and regardless of where you stand politically, you know it's not the voters.
