Martial law. It's one phrase that terrifies all citizens, regardless of their political leanings. With martial law comes complete restrictions of rights and privileges, a weakened economy, and lessened individual power to enact change via voting or even protesting.
Of course, one could argue that we are under martial law right now, but compared to what our situation could be, any form of martial law that exists right now is child's play.
For true martial law, one or all of 5 things must occur, otherwise, the people see the enacting of martial law as an arbitrary crackdown and will fight back. For martial law to be truly effective, the people must think that the government is acting in the interest of the people.
One look at history, and you will know this is an absolute fallacy; martial law exists only for the benefit of those in power, and regardless of where you stand on the political playing field, you know that's not the voters.

The Supreme Court ruled that the weapons confiscation was a violation of our civil rights and ordered them to be returned. The state of Lousiana wanted receipts and bills of sale to return all of the stolen firearms. Of course when your life is in danger you probably are not trying to find receipts. If they ever come for mine I hope to get the first couple mother fuckers through the door.

Martial law depends on the cooperation of the military. A president can’t just order the military to, say, conquer a city. In this case, the military is on our side. Any attempt on Prez O’s part to order the military against Americans at home would result in a coup against himself.
