Martial law. It's one phrase that terrifies all citizens, regardless of their political leanings. With martial law comes complete restrictions of rights and privileges, a weakened economy, and lessened individual power to enact change via voting or even protesting.
Of course, one could argue that we are under martial law right now, but compared to what our situation could be, any form of martial law that exists right now is child's play.
For true martial law, one or all of 5 things must occur, otherwise, the people see the enacting of martial law as an arbitrary crackdown and will fight back. For martial law to be truly effective, the people must think that the government is acting in the interest of the people.
One look at history, and you will know this is an absolute fallacy; martial law exists only for the benefit of those in power, and regardless of where you stand on the political playing field, you know that's not the voters.

Obama will not risk declaring “Martial Law”, which if done would mean he would loose the ability to control things as the country would be under military control of the highest ranking military officer, but he certainly could use the set in place national police force to take control, just look at the assets being used in the South Dakota confrontation, the Oregon confrontation that resulted in LaVoys death, and other militarized police units spread across the nation. Look at the National Guard and then the UN being utilized, not our military. Look at the definition and think about it. ….
