When it comes to young men preparing for their survival, young outdoorsmen usually begin with pellet guns, airsoft guns, and BB guns. These types of guns are also durable, easy to use, and inexpensive.

As a boy becomes a man, most men leave these guns behind and instead focus on larger calibers for sport and hunting. It's a skill many preppers yearn to have — the ability to use a variety of guns so that they're prepared for a variety of SHTF situations.

However, when the grid goes down, a humble pellet gun is likely to once more become a durable weapon that many preppers will choose to rely on. This small-caliber weapon can help a survivalist get food and should not be taken lightly.

So why rely on a pellet gun when you can purchase other weapons?

After the break, keep reading for four compelling reasons why you should not throw out your pellet gun from childhood. It turns out this gun can help you through a variety of SHTF situations.

It is a great way to train others who may be fearful of guns and conserve valuable ammo training as well.

I have a Gamo Whisper Cat. Nice shooting little air rifle. I don’t use it for long shots, have a Winchester .22 lr for that among other large caliber long guns, but it’s nice sit use sitting on the porch and take a rabbit for stew every now and then. It’s not as quiet as I’d hope, in fact it’s nearly as loud as a .22. I recommend it.

I own 2 Gamo pellet rifles in 22 cal. They are excellent small game guns. Squirrels, rabbits, ducks and other birds. Silent AND will save you your 22 long rifle ammo for bigger game

I have been saying this for years. The Gamo whisper is almost silent also. Or a bow. Or a crossbow. It’s about options. The more you have the better.
