In the country, we try to use everything to its maximum potential.

A good example of this is when we use wood for fire.

We heat with a wood stove from late fall through late spring as well as burn off brush or junk wood whenever we need to do so.

That leaves a bunch of ashes over the course of the year, that we then put to good use!

Wood ash, as long as it is not treated with toxic chemicals or paint, is a very valuable survival resource with a lot of practical applications.

We use it in our garden and flower beds, on our walk and drive and have even used it when making a homemade mortar for patching projects.
