If you ever end up in an emergency situation or lost in a strange remote area, you may find yourself wondering about the food situation, especially if you're not sure what to look for.

Every survivalist needs to learn more about the animals and food sources in their immediate area. They need to learn about what is edible and what isn't so edible.

There are some foods that may be edible, but that doesn't mean it's something you want to eat.

We're about to list 3 animals that you don't want to eat during survival situations and why should avoid eating them.

You can view the entire list on the next page! These are very surprising, but it makes sense why these animals may not be the best food sources!

Thatzza Slab Gill there bro! Give me crispy fried gill, and a cold beer,I`ll tell ya how much harm it did.

This is a rubbish article with very little truthful information. For centuries, folks have lived and thrived off of eating creatures such as the ones mentioned.

  3. Jeffrey A Frommeyer said:

Yeah, this is horseshit. Maybe the writer has never actually been in a survival situation. Gee, ya think?

Here’s where I don’t agree all of these animals are externally easy to catch you would not starve trust me anyone with some worms and a hook and line can easily catch 20 to 30 panfish in less than an hour they are so easy to catch it’s stupid I’ve caught them on berries when I ran out of worms

look, if you are starving, or an end of the world type, eat what you can and anything you can. I don;t know anyone who has tried to live off wild caught rabbit for extended periods. Could only eating rabbit hurt you, sure. In a survival situation you get protein where you can when you can, no questions asked – PERIOD.

  6. Jim Ponte said:

This article is serious bs. The writer need to worry more about teahing how to actually catch wild game in a survival situation instead of counting calories. We all know or in take is not going to be the same as normal, but its the fact of having food to eat, which will kill faster than a reduced caloric intake.

  7. Mike Farrar said:

Exactly. Rabbits and squirrel would likely not be eaten alone but thrown into the stew pot along with anything else that could be foraged. Uninformative at best

I work a physical job, go to the gym 6 days a week and don’t even consume 4,000 calories a day with food at my disposal 24/7. This is the stupidest article I have ever read.

  9. Justin Tegtmeier said:

I can understand the artcile of it added specification that if one ONLY ate these three things every day, they’d have issue. But no such clarification was made.

  10. Doug Carson said:

World class BS,all this article states is if this is all you eat.Any food is more valuable than no food, consider that fishing does not burn up very many calories. If it did, all of me and my cousins would not have done it all summer in the South.

  11. Raymond M. Shannon said:

Lame article. You can lose weight by eating elk as your only meat source. Look up Lewis and Clark. You eat what you have.

  12. David Sadtler said:

I find this article to be absolute BS. If you only ate rabbit, squirrel, fish for years, the only thing that would bother you is the same diet. You get tired of eating the same thing over and over. When animals are loading up for winter that’s when you get the good protein from their fat. C’mon man!

  13. Luq Warden said:

Lol the last part is ridiculous, as if squirrel hunting can’t be passive, there’s countless traps out there

  14. Warren Hinkley said:

so I have to agree with the masses on this one the article is total bs while it is true no single source of food will sustain you long term in a survival situation you eat what’s available

  15. Pam Haynes Molder said:

I really dislike articles like this. Way too many real things to write about that would help us.

  16. Mark Cowan said:

Justin Tegtmeier Did you know that if a person only ate raw carrots they would starve because it takes more calories to digest than what it gives the body. So all things in moderation?

  17. Justin Tegtmeier said:

Same with most vegetables high in water content, such as cucumber or celery.
We’d be better off fasting until a full meal is presented.
Definitely all things in moderation. Even too much dihydrogen monoxide will kill us.

  18. Steve Beck said:

You need vitamins, minerals and amino acids not found in some animals. Thats why a ballanced diet is important

  19. Shane Foley said:

Oh get over this bs this time. C’mom your telling me don’t eat trout! And how damn small is that trout to only have 186 cals per side. I fish for trout every year. Some of them I can’t eat but one because how huge they are.

  20. Cris Schlabach Wentz said:

wild rabbit meat really lacks fat and thats what you need in a survival situation. however, if you eat the liver, kidneys, and brains, you get enough fat. problem solved. They myth of “rabbit starvation” apparently took hold in the depression, when people ate nothing at all but rabbit meat for a long time but didnt want to eat anything as yucky as the organ meat ( city people, obviously)….they got reallly sick from the lack of saturated fat and fat soluable vitamins.

  21. Leonard Eacker said:

Food gathering in survival situations is ANYTHING that will move your existence further. That these three foods will not supply a full rounded calorie intake is rather an ignorant point. Better than nothing until other sources are available. These food resources will quickly be reduced in numbers anyways, depending on hunting pressures, and getting wise to hunting methods and Technics. Hunting and fishing require some learned knowledge’s.

  22. Larry Williamson said:

This is a bunch of crap. I have eaten rabbits squirrels and panfish all of my life and still do.

  23. Rob Rice said:

All three are good sources of vital protein. There is no way eating them would do more harm than good. As the writer points out, it would be difficult to get enough of them to live off of, so nobody would try. People would live off of everything they could find, which would include a wide variety of foods.

  24. Scully Headstein said:

So if I’m reading this right, don’t just eat one thing. I don’t think In a survival situation (for whatever duration) I’m only going to eat one thing. Breakfast, squirrel! Lunch, squirrel! Dinner, squirrel! I would be foraging. Collecting mushrooms, greens, grains, nuts, sap, fruit and berries. As far as bug out farm??? The whole concept of bugging out is low profile living. Have a farm anywhere will give away your location. It’s silly. Study up, get a decent pocket knife, and exercise your skills. That’s the only way to survive a shtf or bug out situation.

I would like to know how much this got paid to write this nonsense !

  26. Butch Armstrong said:

Rabbits can carry a disease sometimes… that is called Tularemia… a dangerous disease… makes humans dehydrate, convulsions, and go out of their minds…. so BEWARE…. be WISE…. and look it up.

  27. Leonard Eacker said:

Agreed! I have heard before that a “lean meat” rabbit ONLY diet is insufficient, however if rabbits are the absolute only source of food, ya probably need to move along anyways. Possibly your survival skills in “these cases” stated are lacking also? There are other Vitamins, minerals, and nutrients required that are at least equal to protein intake as well. I doubt this persons abilities of making traps or using a simple weapon like a sling. Love to watch this “book” learned fool build a shelter, or start a fire. Raising animals for food also takes more skill than is possessed by this ignorant “Remington Raider”….

  28. Leonard Eacker said:

Owen Merrow Hahaha… who’s the fool that paid him ANYTHING????…This ignorant fool wouldn’t survive overnight….not alone purifying drinking water or even gathering fuel for a fire he hasn’t the knowledge to start.

  29. Lee Spivey said:

It would be wise to be “Very Careful” of the information you get on survival! There are thousands who have received their “Survival” credentials from Google University!

  30. Chadrick Shillings said:

This article is an over simplification… as if you wouldn’t search for fruits and vegetables too…

  31. Joe Fox said:

Stock pile oil salt flour and sugar. Protein is easy to find. It’s these essentials that will be worth its weight in gold… Literally.

  32. Leonard Eacker said:

The writer obviously hasn’t a clue to survival skills, advising raising animals for food is ridiculous in a survival situation, and beyond most persons skills or abilities anyway. I have serious doubts to his abilities of fish and animal trapping, and hunting with primitive weapons like slings and spears….this guy’s in trouble when his bottled water runs out, the batteries in flashlight run low, and the last of his toilette paper was wasted trying to get a fire started!!!…

Unfollowing bullshit. Did not visit your advertising either.

That is why you shouldn’t eat rabbit, squirrel, or fish raw…also why it a good idea to salt or use lemon which also helps kills bacteria on foods, and if you allowed yourself to touch germs and keep the germs on your hands from r as long as possible, you will have a great immunity system that will help fight foods that might be diseased, should we eat them unknowingly..
Diseased foods is not only found in the wild in animals…look at the number of vegetation in grocery stores that are always being recalled.

A liberal vegan must have wrote this article. Those Looney liberal vegans who insanely went into that restaurant and accused everyone of eating her pet chicken…remember her chicken “snow”… lol..

This is a good example of an article written only for ad revenue. They take a hot topic in the headline and then write any ridiculous article in sections, so you have to click to go to next section, thereby being exposed to more ads.

Of course it is a stupid article, it was not written to inform
