One of the most feared members of the reptile family, the black mamba, is known worldwide for its “kiss of death.” The snake's highly potent venom, coupled with the fact that it's also the fastest snake on the planet, has given it a fearsome reputation.

But, like so many other fears, the overwhelming fear for the black mamba may be because many people have a limited understanding of the creature.

While most people assume that snakes, in general, will slither around actively seeking people to bite, nothing could be further from the truth.
