Crafting a well-rounded survival/bug out kit is a task not lightly undertaken. After all, you may literally be betting your life on the items you pack, so you'd better make sure you pack the right stuff. Some of the most obvious things you may decide to stow in your bag will be a knife, some matches, and maybe some duct tape.
How about some kindling? Did you pack any wound wrapping and sterilization tools? How about a clothing repair kit?

Chances are, no matter how prepared you are, no matter how many kits you've seen, you can always learn something new or get a new idea from looking at the survival kits of others.
Depending on their own experiences, they may have thought of something you had never considered.

If anything you should teach your scouts about the real world too. A little off color comment is the least of their worries. We need to teach kids that everything is not rainbows and sunshine and that being “politically correct” all the time is breaking this country down.
