When it came to our father’s sense of preparedness, he had a huge kit in his car. It contained all of the things he felt was needed to keep his family safe and moving on the road. We often laughed at his caution but now can understand why he was as careful as he was. Dad later admitted that he’s had a few breakdowns in his lifetime and there is nothing more frustrating than walking for miles to get help!

Still, we often felt if Dad had paired down a little, just kept the most important items in his kit, it may have allowed for more trunk space.

We still recall Mother attempting to get a suitcase in the trunk and giving Dad the evil eye when his kit blocked progress!
