Resourcefulness is one of the keys to making it through any survival incident and its aftermath.

Being able to remain calm, accurately assess your situation, determine what tools you have available, how best to use them and how they will help you make it through whatever you are facing maximizes your chances of getting through unscathed.

This is particularly true if you are facing extraordinary odds; the more dire your situation the more it is critical you are as resourceful as possible and lack of resourcefulness can exacerbate your situation or worse, mean you do not make it out in one piece.

On the next page, we relate the story of a guy who survived in a capsized boat on the bottom of the ocean until divers could extricate him.

How he used what he had available to increase his chances for survival is truly invaluable!

OK…….I’m missing something. The guy climbed on a board and waited for rescue. Where does the resourcefulness part of this story come into play?

Great article, except for its missing the part where it explains what he did to survive for 3 days on limited resources. Otherwise, top notch.

Water absorbs CO2? If that’s true the guy would starve to death before worrying about breathing.
