After a while being a prepper, finding bargains, growing your own garden, canning your fruits and veggies, all becomes second nature. Yet, even more than this, know what you have to do, is the urge for self-preservation.

We stock on items because we want to live, be vital, during times when others are barely getting by on scraps. We want to help them but there are only so many things we can do without endangering our own lives and the well-being of our family.

Still, there is an exception, and that is in bartering. You may need something another has but if you collect the things that others will most definitely need during a SHTF scenario, you can find yourself helping but also maintaining a survival lifestyle.

Am I the only one that thinks stocking up to barter is silly. Stock what you need. To barter you have to show your cards. Do you realy want people knowing what you have. There will be desperate people willing to do anything to get what they want. Rather not have them coming my way.

I’m saving seeds.if I can survive the first year the seeds will be a great barter item that may even get me into a small survival community!

No it’s not. If something breaks that isn’t easily replaceable and you don’t have the skills to fix it, you can barter items for labor. There are also going to be things you may not be able to get currently to stock, such as medications. Or you could come under attack and part of your preps become damaged or stolen, which would need replacing. Or you could use them purely for luxury items, starving rich guy’s Rolex for example.
