For most of us, the last place we look for destructive beasts is our backyard.

Even if you live in a rural area, chances are better than even that the wildlife lurking just outside the back door is at worst a pest.

Almost all are at least cute and some, such as birds, play a positive role by keeping the insect population in control.

Among the cute, furry and feathery critters we like, however, are some we do not because of their destructive and sometimes dangerous behavior.

These creatures, often invasive species, can create havoc on everything from native plant and animal populations to being dangerous to house pets and small children.

Some, like the rat, can even pose a risk to all of us.
