How loaded is your survival kit? If you're planning on betting your life on one of those cheap kits thrown together by camping stores, chances are you're in for a rough time. For a kit that's covered pretty much everything, check out the video below.
Water, fire, and first aid. He said his most basic kit covered those three areas and boy did he cover them in spades. No matter how long he's planning on going out, the items in the video are always in his kit. Chances are, he'll be alright in those areas.
He has a variety of methods to start a fire, to purify water, and enough bandages and first aid materials to start his own pharmacy.
One great lesson to learn from this video is to learn from your mistakes. The presenter carries butterfly bandages now because of an injury in the past in which he could have really used one. Don't neglect your kit just because you can “make do” with the tools you have.
Just like he said, he regretted his mistake when he had to pull all of his leg hair out to remove his bandages (duct tape has been known to do that).

If anything you should teach your scouts about the real world too. A little off color comment is the least of their worries. We need to teach kids that everything is not rainbows and sunshine and that being “politically correct” all the time is breaking this country down.
