There is nothing so miserable and potentially dangerous as spending a night out in the woods in wet or cold weather, or both, without a fire.
Fire serves multiple purposes, light, warmth, protection, a way to cook food, a signaling device, and many other functions.
Without it, especially in inclement weather, a person is reduced to shivering and waiting until things improve – and that is the best case scenario.
Without warmth, even in relatively warm conditions, hypothermia is a real risk, the longer a person goes without warming up their body.
In extreme conditions, say freezing weather, the risk becomes greater and death migrates from a “real possibility” to an “acute risk.”
That is why you must know how to make a fire in bad weather or when conditions are less than ideal.
The video on the next page covers your options and shows you how.
