An atlatl is an ancient hunting tool that has been around for over 30,000 years. It acts as a spear-thrower, utilizing a means to project and accurately launch the spear.
Some say it was the first advanced weapon of its time; its mechanics are impressive even by modern standards of weaponry. The atlatl throwing board is a two-foot stick composed of both a handgrip and a “spur” that fits into the six-foot long “dart,” or spear.
The dart is thrown in a style that resembles a tennis serve, and can travel over one hundred yards.
A primitive Atlatl can be built using things easily found in the woods. Take a peek at the video on the next page to learn how to make your own atlatl!

Interesting…but needed more detail on the throwing stick and its socket.

That throwing board looks way too clunky to get a nice throw. Need some flex to store/transfer the energy of the swing!
If Obama takes our guns, we have other choices. Haha.
Shows construction of an arrow. Doesn’t show the atlatl though.
If president tries to take my gun I’ll die before they get it so I won’t need atlatl…
Yea, I’m not primitive.
