There are a lot of fire starting tricks being passed on throughout the prepper and survivalist community. There are literally thousands of these tricks available to those who are willing to learn them.

The reason for this is because fire is so incredibly valuable for the survivor. With fire, you can fend off predators, cook meals, stay warm, dry out clothing, and treat water.

All of these are absolutely essential if you're endeavoring to survive for any length of time.

Now we have another trick that allows you to store a fair amount of fire starting material (cotton balls and petroleum jelly) within a compact container that can be opened and closed to get several uses, rather than just the one use that a typical fire starter hack would have.

Learn this great trick on the next page.

If I needed a fire, I’ll just call an arsonist…problem solved!

Gives you the tinder to start a fire with but not the ignition source. That is what is really needed.

I got a better idea, just carry a couple of disposable lighters wherever you go. They work when they are wet too.

You just have to have fire for your Firestarter, a long waterproof match for example, to light it for multiple signal fires.

Lint from a clothes dryer lint trap works real well as a fire starter aid, it catches REAL easy with a magnesium fire starter striker stick

Stupid !! Still need a match or a lighter to get it going ! Haaahaha might as well just have cotton balls & Vaseline with you in a container or zip lock bags !

  7. Randy Beeson said:

So your not starting a fire with a straw. It’s simply holding your prepared tinder.

Anyone EVER hear of CHAR??? One of the easiest fuels to obtain/make when out.

One of the best things to use is dryer lint. I have a flint striker, will light so easily you will be amazed!

Just dip cotton balls in wax. The wax keeps out moisture and makes less mess. Just tear on open and use a magnesium stick to light it. Burns like a candle.

Where the hell is the source of fire. All you have done is created a source of tinder

Called a fire extender, works really well with a match inside it. I still prefer a lighter

How about a lighter….and a few fucking matches in a waterproof container to make post apocalypse life easier. This will allow more time to think up a snare for a 3 headed rabbit.

Governments are the enemies of all people. When I was in grade school we were taught that the Russians were evil. All photos I saw were of little fat women and scruffy old men. Air raid drills and total fear of Russian people. In past few years I have met quite a few people from Russia and old Soviet union. Guess what people are people just trying to get thru their lives. It’s government’s that cause all the bullshit because they are greedy. They make us pawns in their greedy overreach. Wake up people their are more common people than politicians in this world. United we can make these politicians work for us no matter what country you live in. Work for the common good of your country and let everyone else do the same for theirs. That’s why you have a choice in ice cream. Not everyone likes vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry

If you scraped the sulfer off of match head, and put it in the petroleum jelly, you would have a nypom like fire starter.

use a lighter light the straw and toss it into a pile of flameable material duh

I love all this prepping stuff.. But it is all useless if you are caught umm UNPREPARED.. Like if some how you get stuck out somewhere and all you have are the clothes on your back then what? How are you going to start a fire, make shelter, get water or find food? It doesn’t matter how much or what kind of gear you have if you lack these basic skills

  19. Bruce Lawrence said:

When I did mine I just sort of melt crimped the ends closed. I also keep matches that I cover their heads and wax in these things as well as aspirins and other things

My son has been doing this for a while. Work well and works in light rain.

Take a needle nose and hold the end,use your lighter to heat up the needle nose that is cramped down straw. So now you can put oil for cooking and so much more to put in,lots of fun to play with..HOOT””

Good method. There are so many ways to make a fire, there’s no reason why one cannot be made so save your butt.

I save chewing tobacco tins, fill them with lint from the dryer, lightly apply lighter fluid/gas/diesel (accelerant of your choice) put the lid back on and tape closed. Makes awesome tinder that will instantly light with any spark, this is just what I do. They are lightweight and you can carry dozens if you need to, I have 15 in my BOB, but one tin can easily start several fires.
