The Survival 3’s: Know Them, Learn Them, Survive Them

Just about everyone involved in survival preparation knows about the rule of three.

In a survival situation, you cannot survive for more than three minutes with no air, hours with no shelter, days without water and weeks without food.

This is a bit dependent on environment. You could and likely would survive more than three hours without shelter if you were stranded on a Hawaiian island, for example.

But as a general preparatory principle, the Survival 3's are a good foundation to base your preparation activities for when / if you encounter specific survival incidents or moments.

If you live in tornado alley, for example, the 3's help guide your preparation for dealing with the immediate and medium-term aftermath and survival needs when confronted with a tornado even.

To see how the Survival 3's can be applied to all your preparatory work, as a principle, check out the next page.
