You never know when a survival situation will arise – with major storms, like hurricane Katrina, you may have a few days to prepare or evacuate. But most often, the norm for warnings is a few hours or even minutes.
With most SHTF moments, though, a warning comes as chaos is breaking out and because of that, you must be prepared for the short and long-term realities of a survival situation.
If, for instance, the power grid collapsed, you would get as much warning as you do when the power goes out during a thunderstorm – except it will last for days, maybe weeks and possibly months.
